Fix the CGI error observed while accessing Admin Console on IIS7 – Google Sitemap Generator

Google Sitemap Generator is free software to generate sitemap files which improves the ability of search engines to find the content of your website.

After installing the Google Sitemap Generator, you may face below error while accessing the Admin console using localhost:8181

HTTP Error 500.21 – Internal Server Error
Handler “CGI-exe” has a bad module “CgiModule” in its module list

You can resolve this error:

1. If you are running Windows 7, Go To Control Panel –> Programs & Features –> Turn Windows features on or off.
Then expand Internet Information Services –> World Wide Web Services –> Application Development Features and check CGI.

2. If you are using Windows 2008 server, Go To Server Manager –> Roles –> Web Server(IIS) –> Role Services –> Add Role Services –> Application Development –> then check CGI.

This will fix the CGI error and when you run the url localhost:8181 again in browser, it will show the login screen.

Now you can configure and  generate sitemap.
